my computer doesnt realize it has a hard drive
so i downloaded ubuntu 18.04 and it is in my dvd drive. what do i do next? when i open the file, it shows another bunch of files like disk, boot, casper etc..

What I see looks NOTHING like this. I'm trying to install from a USB (modern computers don't have DVD drives), and have been running into a brick wall. <sigh>
